The "Get Windows 10" nightmare is going to return, as Microsoft has started providing the PC Health Check app as an automatic update for many devices running Windows 10 version 2004.

Specifically, laptop computer Health Check app, that is responsible for helping determine whether your device meets what's needed to set up Windows 11, is no longer a manual download but an automatic update that is delivered via Windows Update.

Microsoft says devices running Windows 10 version 2004 and then might find laptop computer Health Check app as update KB5005463. Worth knowing, however, is the update is exclusive to Windows 10 version 2004, that is necessary to install Windows 11 to begin with anyway.

"This update installs laptop computer Health Check application onto Windows 10, version 2004 and then devices. However, we won't install PC Health Check on Windows 11 devices. PC Health Check includes diagnostics to monitor device health and troubleshooting to improve performance, all from the ease of a single dashboard," Microsoft says.

"This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update," it adds.

Only aimed at Windows 10 version 2004 and later (not Windows 11, though)

Laptop computer Health Check app comes in handy if you're still on Windows 10 and want to determine if your device meets the system requirements for Windows 11. Probably, Microsoft is which makes it an automatic update to better determine what devices ought to be offered the Windows 11 update.

"By default, when you open laptop computer Health Check application, it will automatically install important application updates when they become available. PC Health Check users won't be able to turn off automatic updates," the organization explains.

If you're on Windows 11 or on an earlier version of Windows 10, you obviously won't see the update in Windows Update.

While all eyes are currently on Windows 11, Microsoft can also be giving the finishing touches to Windows 10 November 2021 Update, the next feature update for Windows 10.

As you probably know already, Windows 11 comes with updated system requirements which make the upgrade available just for certain eligible devices, meaning other PCs don't have any other option rather than stick with Windows 10 for a little longer.

Windows 10 will continue to receive support until October 2025, with Microsoft now giving the finishing touches to a new feature update to go live in the autumn.

Codenamed Windows 10 November 2021 Update, this era doesn't necessarily bring major new features, though it does include refinements and enhancements that you must absolutely dress in your device.

And the good news may be the release of this November 2021 Update is simply nearby, with Microsoft explaining that build 19044.1288 is very apt to be the final one that will be offered to production devices too.

Available these days for seekers

Consequently, this build can be obtained for seekers within the Release Preview channel starting today.

"We are now providing the Windows 10 November 2021 Update to all Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 10 via our "seeker" experience in Windows Update," Microsoft explains.

"This means Insiders currently on Windows 10, version 21H1 (or lower) within the Release Preview Channel require to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select to download and install Windows 10, version 21H2. Once an Insider updates their PC to Windows 10, version 21H2, they'll continue to automatically receive new servicing updates through Windows Update (the typical monthly update process)."

At this time, there's still no ETA as to when the rollout to production devices is scheduled to begin.

Windows 11 is now live with so many improvements, but however, there's still missing one small detail that many users still want and need: a battery level indicator that would display the rest of the percentage in the actual taskbar.

At this time, both Windows 10 and Windows 11 come with a battery icon in the system tray, but in both cases, they merely show a graphic of how full battery currently is. Hovering the icon reveals the remaining percentage and an estimate of methods long the device will last on battery power alone.

However, plenty of users have turned to the Feedback Hub on Windows to inquire about Microsoft to include a simple update: allow the icon to be converted to a percentage indicator, therefore making it much easier to figure out how much juice there's quit in the battery.

Third-party battery apps

Obviously, you will find third-party battery apps out there that may show additional information on the current battery level, though getting the event offered natively makes much more sense.

Some believe that by showing just the battery icon and never the particular percentage in the system tray, Microsoft embraces a method similar to Apple's, that has also stopped showing the particular percentage when the iPhone X launched in 2017.

But after the day, what Microsoft must do is most likely let users decide how they want the battery level to become shown on the taskbar.

By doing this, everyone should have the ability to enable just the visual indicator they need, though, at the first glance, the percentage should theoretically make a lot more sense for everybody given it permits us to see the current battery level without resorting to any other action.

The most recent Windows Insider preview build released by Microsoft towards the Dev channel includes a new Fluent emoji experience, therefore aligning this selection whose popularity is continuously increasing using the modern touch bundled using the operating system.

Announced in July, this new Fluent emoji also supports Unicode emoji as much as version 13.1, which means users are also getting new smiley faces included in this release.

Not to mention, the new and refreshed emoji have been redesigned to appear not only fun but also more contemporary.

"Emoji have become area of the approach we take to communicate. Extending our expression by providing humor, feelings, and fun. You will notice we've redesigned all of the emoji and introduced some nostalgia for the fans by making the standard paperclip emoji our beloved Clippy! As part of this rollout, we're adding support for Unicode emoji up to Emoji 13.1 which includes new emoji such as face in the clouds, heart on fire, space with spiral eyes plus a lot more," Microsoft said.

Now available for testers only

What's important to bear in mind is that this new emoji experience happens to be area of the Windows Insider program exclusively, if you would like to try it today, just join the Dev channel and install build 22478.

However, Microsoft says it shouldn't take too much time prior to the new emoji also goes love production devices that have already received Windows 11.

To get this done, the organization plans on utilizing a servicing update that will be shipped to everyone running the brand new operating system, though right now, an ETA as to if this is supposed to happen isn't yet available.

Windows 11 is currently in the process of rolling to production devices available, with Microsoft planning to complete the process by mid-2022.

The battle for the best (or worst) assistant on Windows seems to continue, as Samsung has recently announced that it's bringing Bixby to the new Windows 11.

Coming pre-loaded using the updated Galaxy Book, Bixby can search for files or launch apps using nothing else than a voice command.

Samsung hopes users will discover the magic of Bixby and give up on any other assistant they may have on their devices, such as Cortana, especially because it also offers SmartThings-related capabilities.

"For much more mobility together with your device, Samsung has introduced Bixby on Windows for Galaxy Book users to provide an intuitive way to communicate with your computer. Through simple voice commands, searching for files, open apps and Settings as well as control devices in your SmartThings-registered device ecosystem. Simply say "Hi Bixby" or press CTRL, Shift and B or FN and B simultaneously to activate the Bixby on Windows feature, and revel in easy installation by visiting the Microsoft store or searching for Bixby inside your Windows taskbar," Samsung said in an announcement.

Samsung Galaxy Book is prepared for Windows 11

Like the remaining PC makers out there, Samsung has prepared its Galaxy Book for Windows 11, so the update should already be available on the device if you own one.

Inside a press release shared now, Samsung explains that all the most recent technologies on the desktop can be used on Windows 11 too, including Link to Windows to pair smartphones with PCs.

"With the update, you can check your phone connectivity status, manage sound controls as well as enable 'Do Not Disturb' mode on your Galaxy Book series, all with the help of the familiar UI just like the thing is in your Galaxy smartphones and tablets for additional seamless control using your PC. Connect to Windows also includes Dark Mode for comfortable viewing experiences no matter the time," the organization says.

The Galaxy Book Pro 360 5G includes Windows 11 pre-loaded, and many other Galaxy Book models should get the upgrade to the new OS within the coming weeks.

Windows 11 will ultimately become readily available for non-insider devices tomorrow, which is clearly good news for everybody, although the updated system requirements have caused a great deal of frustration in the existing Windows 10 userbase given few people can update their devices.

However, within the last couple weeks, I've seen various ways of installing Windows 11 on unsupported devices making the headlines, and without a doubt, lots of people will give them a go because they want to get the modern experience on their own computers too.

But on the other hand, Microsoft warns that force-installing Windows 11 on a device that's not officially supported comes with an increased probability of bugs, especially because no new drivers are freed.

"From Windows Insider machines, those that did not satisfy the minimum system requirements had 52% more kernel mode crashes (blue screens) than those that did meet the requirements. Machines that met the requirements provided a 99.8% crash-free experience that's effectively managed by OEMs and IHVs through modern driver update management. Additionally, on unsupported hardware app hangs are 17% more likely and for first-party apps we see 43% more crashes," Microsoft says.

Windows 10 still a good OS

Leaving aside Microsoft's very own recommendations, installing Windows 11 on an unsupported device is too much of an inconvenience to begin with.

Windows 10 is really a perfectly fine operating system, and at this time, it's even faster, more polished and reliable than Windows 11 to begin with, so there's no urgency in moving towards the latest version unless you really want to see what's new.

Windows 10 will still be supported according to the original schedule, so updates is going to be shipped regularly until 2025.

Furthermore, a brand new feature update is projected to visit live this season as well, though Microsoft hasn't provided any specifics as to whether any such big updates are projected to still go live in 2022 and beyond.
